Once upon a time, Barbara Neely lived in Decatur, Georgia. Her foster Grandmother, Jean, and her science-whiz nine-year-old daughter, Heather, struggled to make ends meet.

One day, Barbara awakens in a different world. With the help of Grifflestump Elder, Fen and Wolfcreed, she learns this is the world into which she was born, but she was sent away for her own protection.

She is also told she must wield the cursed golden Sword of Tilk to vanquish the kingdom's enemy, Balfourant, a feat she is certain she is incapable of accomplishing. She couldn't even stand up to her old boss for crying out loud.

But when Balfourant captures her daughter, Heather, Barbara must stand and face her own demons . . . and become the woman she is truly meant to be.
